This project examines the evolution of China’s economic presence in Hungary, together with its economic, social, environmental and geopolitical implications. It analyses Chinese foreign direct investment, bilateral trade relations and major infrastructure projects, with particular attention to the rapid expansion of investments in the electric vehicle and battery industries. The research explores why Hungary has become one of the leading European destinations for Chinese investment and assesses both the opportunities and the challenges associated with this process. It also investigates the interaction between Hungarian and Chinese economic policies, Hungary’s position within the European Union, and the broader implications for competitiveness, sustainability and strategic autonomy. The project aims to provide an evidence-based assessment of Hungary–China economic relations and to support informed policy discussions.
